2013 Challenge - Verse 2!

How are you all doing?? January is quickly speeding by - it's the 15th already... and you know what that means? It's time to choose your second verse of 2013 to commit to memory! I hope you are all feeling confident that your first verses is cemented into your consciousness now... but don't forget to continue to review as you work on your new verse. :)

I found this great app for my phone that helps with scripture memory... but it's not just for your phone - you can use it online from your computer too! Check out Scripture Typer .  From their website description:  "It actively engages 3 separate cognitive areas: Audio (record verses audio and try to speak along with the playback), Visual (review verses using virtual flash cards & draw verse illustrations), and Touch (Type the first letter of each word in a verse to quickly memorize it)"

In case the link above doesn't work, here's the website -- http://scripturetyper.com

Have you looked at the comments for the Verse 1 Roll-Call? If not, you should... It's so encouraging to see those of you from ALL OVER who are committing to this 2013 challenge... WELCOME! I know there are others who have started as well, but will likely never make it to the blog. It's not too late if you are recruiting others - please let them know they are welcome to still join us! As someone wrote in a comment - "iron sharpening iron..." :)

Ok - time to check in and share your second memory verse in the comment area below.  Remember, first name, city/location, verse, reference/address and translation.

Finally brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things. Philippians 4:8 ESV

"For the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh but have divine power to destroy strongholds. We destroy arguments and every lofty opinion raised against the knowledge of God, and take every thought captive to obey Christ" 2 Cor. 10:4-5

But the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. There is no law against these things!
Those who belong to Christ Jesus have nailed the passions and desires of their sinful nature to his cross and crucified them there. Since we are living by the Spirit, let us follow the Spirit’s leading in every part of our lives. Gal 5:22-25, NLT
(This might also carry over for my Verse 3 sign-in! ;) )

That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked upon, and our hands have handled, concerning the Word of life- (the life was manifested, and we have seen it, and bear witness, and declare to you that eternal life which was with the Father, and was manifested to us)- that which we have seen and heard we declare to you, that you may have fellowship with us, and truly our fellowship is with the Father and with His Son, Jesus Christ. These things we write to you that your joy may be full. 1 John 1:1-4 ESV

Now may the God of peace who brought again from the dead our Lord Jesus, the great shepherd of the sheep, by the blood of the eternal covenant, equip you with EVERYTHING GOOD that you may do His will, working in you, that which is pleasing in His sight through Jesus Christ, to whom be glory forever and ever. Amen. Heb 12:20 ESV

After learning Rom. 5:7,8 I've decided to work on the whole chapter. "Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ: By whom also we have access by faith into this grace wherein we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God. Romans 5:1&2 KJV

Abide in me, and I in you. as the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; no more can ye, except ye abide in me.
I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing.
If a man abide not in me, he is cast forth as a branch, and is withered; and men gather them, and cast them into the fire, and they are burned.
If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you. John 15 v 4 - 7 KJV (trying to do the whole chapter).

Sandra, Qatar And the vessel he made of clay was marred in the hand of the potter; so he made it again another vessel, as seemed good to the potter to make it. ... Cannot I do with you as this potter? saith the Lord. Behold, as the clay is in the potter's hand, so are ye in mine hand. Jeremiah 18: 4,6 KJV

Jody - GTA, ON - So I have not been overly ambitious to date with my verses - keeping it simple to ensure that I do, in fact, memorize them:) But since I do have them down pat - I thought I would try a combination of verses for our next roll call - so would get a head start - "Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others. In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus:...Do everything without grumbling or arguing, so that you may become blameless and pure, “children of God without fault in a warped and crooked generation.” Then you will shine among them like stars in the sky as you hold firmly to the word of life" Philippians 2:3-5,14-16a NIV
